DESIGN PROFESSIONS
& ARTS AND CRAFTS

Design needs arts and crafts, and arts and crafts excel in the service of design. It’s the story of a happy marriage between the head and the hand. Weavers, cabinetmakers, glassblowers, or product designers: discover the outstanding skills that shape our objects.

A bit of pedagogy. Historically, a distinction was made between the Fine Arts (major) and the Applied Arts (minor). But today, this boundary is fading. In the great family of Applied Arts, two worlds coexist and complement each other: fine crafts, heir to centuries-old know-how, and design (product, space, graphic) geared towards industrial conception and use.

In this section, we celebrate the creative couple Designer / Artisan. Because designers love to call upon “beautiful craftsmanship” and honor the human hand at the heart of the objects they create. They are called weavers, embroiderers, glassblowers, enamelers, feather workers, porcelain makers, cabinetmakers, marble workers… Others create exceptional screens, fans, and furniture.

We will take you to meet them in the workshops but also at the major fairs that celebrate them: Révélations, Maison&Objet, PAD, European Artistic Crafts Days… Discover here our favorites among these creations where technical excellence meets creative audacity.
