WHEN DESIGN
GOES GREEN
It has been said over and over again: our planet is in danger! We must act. And to act, we must radically transform our production methods. The design of our objects is at the heart of this challenge. How to reconcile beauty, utility, and respect for the environment?
The emergency is here. On the one hand, the resources of our mother Planet are drying up; on the other, the waste from our human activities is growing by billions of tons. Forests and oceans can’t take it anymore, global warming is sounding the alarm, and biodiversity is threatened.
How can design play its part in this challenge and find concrete solutions? It is no longer just a matter of drawing beautiful objects, but of thinking about their entire life cycle. Eco-design, bio-sourced materials, sustainability, repairability… Today’s designer is also an activist.
In this section, we explore the bold innovations and proposals of designers, architects, and brand managers who are trying to reinvent a more virtuous world, without sacrificing inventiveness or aesthetics.
