MATERIALS &
MATTER
When it comes to… materials, design and designers are spoiled for choice, whether driven by the heart or by technique. From raw wood to high-tech plastic, each material tells a story, dictates a form, and imposes a use.
The art of matter. Creators draw from an infinite palette. There is the traditional metal family with steel, aluminum, stainless steel, sheet metal, zinc, wire, copper, brass, and waxed concrete…
In the other large family, that of natural materials, they work with wood, glass, and leather, but also cotton, wool, and cashmere. They innovate with materials that have become essential such as linen, wicker, and bamboo, or more daring ones like hemp and even algae.
They also confront mineral materials: stone, marble, sandstone, terrazzo, terracotta, quartz, ceramics, or travertine. As for synthetic materials (polyester, acrylic, elastane, and the inevitable plastic), they have not finished surprising and revealing unexplored facets.
