LE FRENCH DESIGN
BY VIA

By Mélina Gazsi

For 40 years, the VIA has propelled French design internationally. A closer look at the 4th edition of the French Design 100 prize and the landmark exhibition “Résurgences”.

It is a prize that rewards the 100 best French design projects abroad, awarded by the association of French designers, interior architects, and manufacturers, gathered under Le French Design. Until 2018, this organization was known as VIA, for Valorisation of Innovation in Furnishing (Valorisation de l’Innovation dans l’Ameublement). The 4th edition of the prize, scheduled for January 2026, is the annual gathering of an entire industry to propel French design even higher and further.

Of course, while this prize celebrates the 100 best French design and interior architecture projects in the world, it primarily pays tribute to the unique craftsmanship surrounding our French art of living.

The VIA’s mission

For more than 40 years, the VIA has been a platform for exchange and an exhibition space, created in 1979 on the initiative of CODIFAB with the support of the Ministry of Industry. Its main missions are to promote creation and innovation in the furniture sector (domestic and professional) in France and abroad. It takes action to make France an international platform of expression and supports young creation: the VIA has acquired undeniable notoriety by revealing talents who are now international.

Ambassador of innovation

Le French Design acts as an ambassador for French innovation in furniture. Within this organization, its members—designers, architects, manufacturers, publishers—combine their skills to promote French design all over the world. The goal is to build interdisciplinary bridges between industrialists and creators to encourage the emergence of innovative cooperation, while highlighting the French creative talent pool, its schools, and its cultural heritage.

The “Résurgences” exhibition

A permanent showcase, the Galerie du French Design (300m²) hosts the exhibition Résurgences from October 6, 2025, to January 3, 2026. On the program: masterpieces of French design! It will notably feature a lacquered chair by Christian Liaigre re-edited by Philippe Hurel, a floor lamp by Pierre Guariche from Sammode, and the famous desk by Pierre Paulin from Ligne Roset.

Other design figures like Roger Tallon, Jean-Michel Frank, or Rena Dumas will be honored, all in a scenography designed by Pauline Leprince, the architect who renovated Karl Lagerfeld’s apartment in 2024.
